Farm Credit Welcomes Ben Barbee As Information Technology Summer Intern

Farm Credit of the Virginias (FCV) recently announced Ben Barbee as one of five 2020 summer interns. Barbee will work remotely until employees return to offices later this year. Once FCV offices re-open, Barbee will work alongside his mentor Freddy McGuire, Senior Information Systems Specialist, out of the Roanoke branch.

A native of Fairfax County, Virginia, Barbee now resides in Blacksburg where he attends Virginia Tech, studying Business Information Technology with a concentration in Cybersecurity. He is a brother of Sigma Tau Gamma and head of the fraternity’s Internal Philanthropy group, which gives him the opportunity to give back to the local Blacksburg community.

He has previously held an internship with Burney Investment Management in Reston, Virginia, and also has prior experience working in retail at Cassels Sports and Awards in Herndon, Virginia.

In regards to what he is most looking forward to bringing to FCV this summer, Barbee replied, “I’m excited to bring my drive to learn to Farm Credit. One thing that has consistently blown me away in the interview and now in my first couple weeks here, is how important learning is to this company and to the interns. I can already tell I will learn so much working here over this summer and I could not be more excited.”

Barbee’s mentor, McGuire, shared, “We have been looking forward to having Ben with us this summer and despite the challenges of a virtual internship to this point, Ben has been a great asset to the team and we are excited about the rest of the summer!”

In addition, Barbee is very passionate about swimming and has been involved with several swim clubs over the years. He has also earned the rank of Eagle Scout with Boy Scouts of America (the highest rank attainable!) In his spare time, Barbee enjoys playing sports, cooking, playing instruments, and listening to music.
