In addition to supporting rural America and its’ agricultural communities, Farm Credit of the Virginias is committed to ensuring nutritious meals are accessible to those who need them most. This week, Farm Credit of the Virginias pledged a $5,000 contribution to the No Kid Hungry Virginia campaign.

The No Kid Hungry Virginia campaign works to create public-private partnerships to end child hunger through connecting eligible children to federal nutrition programs. Together with the Virginia Department of Education and community partners, the organizations work to end child hunger in the Commonwealth.

“March 4-8 marks National School Breakfast week, and there’s no better time for Farm Credit of the Virginia’s to also celebrate our contribution to No Kid Hungry Virginia,” said Farm Credit of the Virginias CEO, Peery Heldreth. “Farm Credit of the Virginias is pleased to support their initiative to provide our school children with fresh, healthy foods.”

Claire Mansfield, Director of No Kid Hungry Virginia shared, “Partners like Farm Credit of the Virginias are vitally important to our work. With their help and support we are better able to ensure that all of Virginia’s children have access to healthy, nutritious meals in their schools and communities year round.”

The No Kid Hungry Virginia campaign is working to increase awareness and participation in the School Breakfast Program, the Community Eligibility Provision, the Summer Meals Program, and the At-Risk Afterschool Meals Program.

When the No Kid Hungry Virginia campaign launched in 2011, more than one in six children in the state were at risk of hunger, or food insecure. Today, one in seven children live in families that struggle with food insecurity. The work of the No Kid Hungry Virginia campaign continues to improve access to nutritious food programs.
